Apple’s New ‘Photos’ App for OS X Yosemite to Offer Search, Effects, Third-Party Plugins

Apple announced last week that it would be discontinuing development on its professional level Aperture photo management application to focus on the development of the new “Photos” app, expected early next year. Details on the new app were scarce at the time, however more information has now come to light.

Ars Technica pried additional information out of an Apple representative, who noted that professional-grade features would indeed be included in the new Photos app:

When asked about what Aperture-like features users can expect from the new Photos app, an Apple representative mentioned plans for professional-grade features such as image search, editing, effects, and most notably, third-party extensibility.

Apple has promised Aperture users that they will be able to import their existing libraries into the new OS X Photos app.
