Rumor: iPhone 6 to Include Faster Qualcomm MDM9625 LTE Modem with LTE-Advanced Support

A new photo that allegedly shows the iPhone 6’s logic board, (shared by GeekBar (Google Translate, via G for Games)), indicates the new handset may use Qualcomm’s MDM9625 LTE Modem.

MacRumors:

Originally announced in 2012 and featuring support for speeds of up to 150 MBPS and improved LTE networking, the Category 4 chip would mark an improvement over the Qualcomm MDM9615 chip found in the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5. The MDM9625 is also more durable than its predecessor, allowing for lower temperatures under heavy performance thanks to a refined 28-nanometer production process.

The MDM9625 also includes support for next-generation LTE Advanced networks, which are not as yet available in most of the world. Today’s report runs counter to a previous report via VentureBeat that said the iPhone 6 would use a category 6 LTE modem, capable of 300 MBPS speeds. That report said the new handset would not include support for LTE-Advanced networks.

As usual, this rumor/report should be taken with a grain of salt, or your favorite seasoning. (What is your favorite seasoning? Let us know in the comments section below. – Ed.)

Apple is expected to debut the iPhone 6 sometime in September. It’s widely believed the handset will be available in two sizes, 4.7-inches and 5.5-inches. The phones are expected to sport a faster A8 processor, improved cameras, and a thinner profile. The 5.5-inch model has been rumored to be launching after the smaller model, due to manufacturing issues.
