A new rumor coming from our friends in the far east indicates the Apple iPad mini 4 will basically be a smaller iPad Air 2. The rumor also indicates that Apple could introduce an iPad Air 3 in 2015 after all.
The Japanese-language Macotakara said on Saturday that its industry sources are describing the iPad mini 4 as a shrunken version of the iPad Air 2, with plans calling for the adoption of many of the same specifications, notably a new 8MP iSight camera, A8-series processor, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi.
The iPad mini 4 will also reportedly sport a slimmer frame, reduced from its current thickness of 7.5mm to match the iPad Air 2’s 6.1mm. It could also sport a laminated display with antireflective coating, just like its larger sibling.
In addition, the report indicates that Apple will indeed release a new iPad Air model in 2015. Recent rumors had indicated Apple might skip debuting an “iPad Air 3” in favor of introducing a new mini and possible the 12.9-inch “iPad Pro.”
Macotakara’s sources indicate the length, width, depth and thickness of the iPad Air 3 will remain unchanged from the iPad Air 2, and will boast an A9 processor.
