Apple Trademark Filings Indicate More Beats Radio Stations are on Their Way

It appears Beats Radio listeners will indeed have to learn to count higher than one if they want to enjoy all of the Beats Radio stations Apple Music will have to offer. A new trademark application from Apple indicates there may be at least four more live streaming radio stations on the way.

AppleInsider:

Logos for Beats radio stations numbered 2 through 5 were filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office last month, and spotted on Monday by Consomac. The trademarks are owned by Beats Electronics, LLC, and apply to both the names “Beats 2-5” as well as “B2-B5” logos.

Currently, Apple offers just one Beats Radio Station, Beats 1. The live streaming radio service launched earlier this year as a part of the Apple Music subscription service. The service’s main attractions are the human music curation, and live personalities, intended to enhance the service’s music discovery capabilities.

Today’s trademark application discovery isn’t the first indication that Apple was planning to expand their Beats Radio offerings beyond one channel, as we learned earlier this year that Apple’s content licensing deals allow the company to launch up to five streaming radio stations without the need to renegotiate their deal with the record labels. Apple also already owns web domains that also indicate expansion plans, with such domains as beats2.hk, beats2.com.ru and beats2.com.cn, on up through “beats5.”
