Apple Releases Second Betas of OS X 10.11.4, tvOS 9.2, and watchOS 2.2

On a busy release day, Apple on Monday released second betas for OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan, tvOS 9.2, and watchOS 2.2.

OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan Beta 2

OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan beta is available for download by developers from the Apple Developer Center, or via the “Update” tab in the Mac App Store. A public beta will also likely soon follow.

While OS X 10.11.4 includes new features, such as password protected notes in the Notes app, it appears to focus primarily on under-the-hood bug fixes and performance improvements.

tvOS 9.2 Beta 2

The tvOS 9.2 beta can be downloaded on any fourth-generation Apple TV already running the first beta of tvOS 9.2, or it can be downloaded from the Apple Developer Center, and installed on the Apple TV connected to a computer with a USB-C to USB-A cable, and installed via iTunes or Apple Configurator.

Changes in tvOS 9.2 beta 2 include:

  • Bluetooth Keyboard support.
  • Folders support for grouping apps on Home screen.
  • MapKit support.
  • Siri support for US Spanish (in US only) and French Canadian (in Canada only).
  • Siri support for UK English, Australian English and US English available across the UK, Australian and US Storefronts when English is set as the system language.
  • Updated App Switcher UI.
  • Podcast app that was also included in tvOS 9.1.1 earlier today.

watchOS 2.2 beta 2

The watchOS 2.2 beta is also available for download from the Apple Developer Center, or via the Watch app on iPhones running the iOS 9.3 beta, by going to “General” -> “Software Update.” The Watch must be on the charger, have at least 50% battery remaining, and must be in range of the iPhone.

What’s new in watchOS 2.2:

  • With watchOS 2.2 and iOS 9.3, the iPhone is able to pair with more than one Apple Watch. Both updates are required, with each watch running watchOS 2.2 and the iPhone running iOS 9.3.
  • Includes a new Maps app, with improved Maps glances that include Quick Links for Maps, as seen below.
