Group Creates Real-Life Pong Game – Including the Square Ball! (VIDEO)

This isn’t really Apple related, but it will make for some cool lunchtime viewing. A group of folk in Uruguay has taken the classic arcade game Pong, and brought it into the real world. Square balls and all, y’all!

Gizmag:

Daniel Perdomo, the mastermind of the Pong Project, says he and a few friends have been working on the game for the past two years, toiling away in their spare time. A lack of electronics, production design or manufacturing backgrounds didn’t stop them from putting together what appears to be a solid, cleverly constructed mechanical table.

The group picked up the required skills and knowledge from, where else, the Internet, mostly via Google, YouTube, and various forums. The video below shows the entire constructions process, as well as the finished product.

The final version, which has a cool retro look and feel to it, allows each player to move their paddle via a knob, just like the original 70s arcade game, and the ball changes trajectory according to how it hits the player’s paddle. It looks as if there is a single player mode available too!

The group is now looking for a way to turn their prototype into a production project, although we imagine Atari, or whoever owns the right to Atari’s name, might have something to say about that.
