Apple Valued at $1 Trillion: How Others Compare in History

Today, Apple officially achieved $1 trillion dollar market capitalization. It’s a historic benchmark no company has ever achieved. But is it? When we look at companies of the past, and adjust their market cap for inflation, we discover that other companies were even bigger during times of their peak.

The below chart shows the world’s most valuable companies in history. You might have not heard of some of these behemoths while others are still around and kicking. Did you know that Microsoft was valued at $0.9 trillion during their peak in 1999?

“What comes up must come down.” We’d be surprised if Apple is still at no. 1 five years from now, especially when it faces so much competition from Amazon and Google. Until then, enjoy it very much Apple!
