A mention in an Apple product database has fueled speculation that Apple may soon release a (PRODUCT)RED version of the Apple Watch.
The claim comes from French publication WatchGeneration which does admit that most of its information is speculation. The publication says the mention of such a product was found in an unspecified Apple database but that it was subsequently removed.
If the product comes to fruition, it will be the first Apple Watch model to be offered as a (PRODUCT)RED product. (The company did offer a (PRODUCT)RED sport band loop back in November 2018.)
WatchGeneration says it believes the specific color of the new Apple Watch would be close to that of the iPod touch, which got a (PRODUCT)RED version in May of this year.
Apple has for years sold a wide variety of exclusive (PRODUCT)RED branded merchandise. When a customer purchases a (PRODUCT)RED device or accessory, a portion of the proceeds go to (RED). The most recent (PRODUCT)RED product is the iPhone XR.
Apple recently announced it has raised over $200 million to support the Global Fund for the fight against AIDS via sales of (PRODUCT)RED devices and accessories.
