In addition to songs by Carey, a sleigh-load of celebrity guests will appear, including Tiffany Haddish, Billy Eichner, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Snoop Dogg, Jermaine Dupri, Misty Copeland, and Mykal-Michelle Harris, as well as Carey’s own nine-year-old twins.
The special will feature a range of musical performances, dancing, and animation, driven by a “universally heartwarming story.”
In addition to Mariah Carey, Ian Stewart, Raj Kapoor, and Ashley Edens executive produce for production company Done + Dusted (“The Disney Family Singalong,” John Legend’s “A Legendary Christmas with John and Chrissy,” “The Little Mermaid Live!,” “Dear Class of 2020,” London Olympic opening and closing ceremonies). The holiday special will be directed by BAFTA Award winner Hamish Hamilton (Oscars, Super Bowl halftime show, London Olympics opening and closing ceremonies), and Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Roman Coppola (“Mozart in the Jungle,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” “A Very Murray Christmas”), who also serves as executive producer on the project.
The holiday special will also debut a new soundtrack single titled “Oh Santa!” which features Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson, and will simultaneously arrive on Apple Music as an exclusive, before being made available on other music streaming platforms beginning December 11.
Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special will stream on Apple TV+ from Friday, December 4.
