Apple Derby Street Store in Boston Struck by Vehicle, Several Casualties Reported

A man was killed and 19 people were being treated at Boston-area hospitals after an SUV crashed into the Apple Derby Street Store in the Boston suburb of Hingham, Massachusetts.

Local ABC affiliate WCVB report reported that multiple people were injured:

The 2019 Toyota 4Runner barreled into the store at about 10:45 a.m., smashing through the glass, which struck multiple people, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said at a news conference.

Moments after the crash, video from Sky 5 showed a large hole in the glass front of the store. There were multiple people on the ground outside the store being tended to by the dozens of first responders at the scene.

As of Monday afternoon, WCVB reported that one person was killed and at least 19 people were taken by ambulance to area hospitals. Four of the victims were in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle is in police custody and there is an active criminal investigation. It is not known if the drive intentionally crashed into the store.

Apple issued the following statement to WCVB in response to the incident:

We are devastated by the shocking events at Apple Derby Street today and the tragic loss of a professional who was onsite supporting recent construction at the store. Our hearts go out to our team members and customers who were injured and all of those who were affected by this terrible incident. We are doing everything we can to support our team members and customers at this very difficult time.

The Derby Street store’s webpage is showing that the store is temporarily closed.
