Apple is Not Planing to Purchase Premier League Club Manchester United

A recent rumor that Apple is planning to purchase Premier League club Manchester United is not true, says a source familiar with the matter.

A Thursday report from The Daily Star claimed that Apple exploring buying Manchester United for approximately $7 billion, but a MacRumors report says its source “with direct knowledge of the situation” told them the report is false.

The club announced on Tuesday that its board planned to “explore strategic alternatives,” including a potential sale of the club. Manchester United has been majority owned by the Glazer family since 2005.

The club also announced that star player Cristiano Ronaldo would be leaving the club.

The Apple rumor may stem from the Cupertino firm’s recent push into sports content for its Apple TV+ streaming service. Apple added a weekly MLB “Friday Night Baseball” doubleheader streamcast during the 2022 regular season and will be the exclusive provider of Major League Soccer games for the next 10 years. Apple is also in the running for the National Football League’s Sunday Ticket package.
