Netflix Now Testing Games on Smart TVs, Set-Top Boxes, Macs, and PCs in Canada and the U.K.

Netflix Now Testing Games on Smart TVs, Set-Top Boxes, Macs, and PCs in Canada and the U.K.

Netflix on Monday announced that it has started rolling out a limited beta test to a small number of members in Canada and the UK on select TVs, and on PCs and Macs through Netflix.com on supported browsers in the next few weeks.

A limited number of Netflix customers in these countries can visit Netflix.com on supported browsers on a PC or Mac.

Two games will be part of this initial test: Oxenfree from Night School Studio, a Netflix Game Studio, and Molehew’s Mining Adventure, a gem-mining arcade game. To play our games on TV, we’re introducing a controller that we already have in our hands most of the day — our phones. Members on PCs and Macs can play on Netflix.com with a keyboard and mouse.

Netflix says that games can be played through Amazon TV Streaming Media Players, Chromecast with Google TV, LG TVs, Nvidia Shield TV, Roku devices and TVs, Samsung Smart TVs, and Walmart ONN. Although the games are not available on the Apple TV, Netflix says additional devices will be added “on an ongoing basis.”

TV games can be played using the Netflix Game Controller app, which launched last week for iPhones and Android devices.

While Netflix has offered mobile games to subscribers since 2021, and there are now more than 50 titles available, the games could only be played on a smartphone or tablet. Access to games is included as part of a subscriber’s Netflix membership.
