Apple last week said it would release a software update that would address the bug contributing to the overheating issues that iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max users were experiencing. Now, MacRumors reports that it can confirm that Apple is internally testing iOS 17.0.3, which likely contains the promised fix.
It’s unclear when iOS 17.0.3 will be released to the public, but the update will likely be available either later this week or next week.
Apple has not provided any details on the bug it is fixing, only saying that the fix will not reduce the performance of the A17 Pro chip. Apple also said the iPhone 15 Pro’s titanium frame is not to blame, meaning the overheating issues are due to a software issue.
Apple also said the issue is not a safety risk and will not impact the long-term performance of affected iPhones.
Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said last week that if Apple is unable to “properly address this issue,” shipments could be impacted over the life cycle of the iPhone 15 Pro.
Apple says recent updates to some third-party apps have overloaded the system and contributed to the overheating issue. Affected apps include Instagram, Asphalt 9: Legends, and Uber. Apple is working with the developers of these apps to address the issue. Instagram reportedly has already fixed the issue in an update to its app, released last Wednesday.
Not all iPhone 15 Pro users have reported their overheating, and it’s unclear how many users have been impacted by the issue, but it should be fixed soon.
