Apple Releases iOS 17.0.3 – Includes Fix for iPhone 15 Pro Overheating

Apple today released an iOS 17.0.3 update for the iPhone. Apple has also released a new version of iPadOS, 17.0.3, for iPad users.

The update, which is build 21A360, can be downloaded and installed on compatible iPhones and iPads over-the-air by going to “Settings” -> “General” -> “Software Update.”

iOS 17.0.3 fixes an overheating issue on the iPhone 15 Pro and ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ Max. Shortly after the new iPhone 15 models launched, owners of the new handsets began complaining that the ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ and Pro Max were getting too warm, some even seeing their devices shut down due to heat problems.

Recently, Apple confirmed there was an iOS 17 update in the works to address a bug that may contribute to the reported iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max overheating issue.

Apple has said that recent updates to some third-party apps have overloaded the system and contributed to the overheating issue. Affected apps include Instagram, Asphalt 9: Legends, and Uber. Apple is working with the developers of these apps to address the issue. Instagram reportedly has already fixed the issue in an update to its app, released last Wednesday.

The iOS 17.0.3 and iPadOS 17.0.3 updates also address a kernel vulnerability that could allow an attacker to gain elevated privileges.
