Netflix Won’t Provide Native App Support for Apple Vision Pro at Launch

Netflix Won’t Provide Native App Support for Apple Vision Pro at Launch

Netflix will not offer native app support for Apple’s Vision Pro headset at launch. Instead, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman says the streaming service will only be accessible through Safari and other web browsers on the device.

“Our members will be able to enjoy Netflix on the web browser on the Vision Pro, similar to how our members can enjoy Netflix on Macs,” a Netflix spokesperson told Gurman.

While Gurman had said in July 2023 that Netflix would “still let its iPad app run on the headset unmodified,” he now says the service will not offer an app of any kind to run on the Vision Pro at launch. While Apple has made it easy for developers to port their iPadOS apps over to visionOS, meaning more than one million apps will be available on the Vision Pro’s App Store at launch. However, Netflix has evidently decided against porting its app to the Vision Pro.

Apple has announced that various video and sports apps will be available on the Vision Pro at launch, including apps from Disney+,4 ESPN, NBA, MLB, PGA Tour, Max, Discovery+, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, Peacock, Pluto TV, Tubi, Fubo, Crunchyroll, Red Bull TV, IMAX, TikTok, and more.

The Apple Vision Pro will be available starting at $3,499 (U.S.) with 256GB of storage. Pre-orders for Apple Vision Pro will begin on Friday, January 19, at 5 a.m. PST, with availability beginning Friday, February 2.
