Bloomberg’s Gurman: ‘Apple ID’ to Change to ‘Apple Account’ in iOS 18

Bloomberg’s Gurman: ‘Apple ID’ to Change to ‘Apple Account’ in iOS 18

We reported back in February that Apple is preparing to rebrand its well-known Apple ID brand, renaming it to “Apple Account.” Apple ID accounts allow Apple users to access several services from the Cupertino firm, including the App Store, iCloud, and more. Apple IDs allow users to purchase apps and music, and subscribe and access services such as Apple TV+, Apple Music, and the App Store, among other things.

Now, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter on Sunday, corroborated that report. Gurman said the new “Apple Account” branding will start to be used later this year both online and in Apple’s next major software releases, such as iOS 18 for the iPhone and watchOS 11 for the Apple Watch.

Apple already calls funds added to your Apple ID wallet an “Apple Account balance,” and there is already an “Apple Account” team within the company. The term “Apple ID” is expected to be completely phased out. The company has used the term for more than two decades.

Apple has not officially announced the move or explained the reasoning behind the decision. However, many observers feel the “Apple Account” branding would be more straightforward.

Apple will unveil iOS 18 and its other upgraded operating systems at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June. The “Apple Account” rebranding will likely be announced then. iOS 18 and the other updated operating systems will likely be released to the public this fall.
