Having Trouble With ‘Ghost Touch’ Issue on Apple Watch Series 7 and Later? Here’s Apple’s Solution

The touch-related bug affecting Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 owners that we reported about earlier this year, also affects the Apple Watch Series 7, Series 8, and Ultra 1, according to an Apple memo shared with Apple Authorized Service Providers.

Apple service personnel have been told not to replace the user’s Apple Watch if they complain of the ghost touch issue. Instead, they are being told to instruct customers to fix the issue via a force restart. A force restart can be performed by simultaneously holding down the Apple Watch’s side button and the Digital Crown for 10 seconds. Personnel have also been told to confirm that affected Apple Watches are running the latest version of watchOS.

Users with affected Apple Watch models to “jump erratically” or exhibit other unexpected behavior, without any user interaction, according to Apple. The issue could result in an Apple Watch unintentionally starting a phone call and even prevent users from entering the device’s passcode.

Apple offered a fix for the ghost touch issue with the release of watchOS 10.4, so hopefully that update fixes the ghost touch on all affected models.
