It’s looking more and more like we shouldn’t expect too much from Apple’s upcoming iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5 updates. Apple has seeded the third betas of both, and so far all we’ve seen are a few minor changes.
The only changes we’ve seen so far are in the Mail and Settings apps.
In the Mail app, users can now quickly disable contact photos directly within the app, by tapping on the circle with three dots in the top-right corner, then tapping “Show Contact Photos in the menu that appears. This allows users to quickly enable or disable contact photos.

In the Settings app, AppleCare+ coverage information is more prominent. This can be found under “Settings” -> “General” -> “About.”

There’s also a new option in iOS 18.5 to show a banner when triggering a Back Tap function. This option appeared in some of the earlier iOS 18.4 betas but was disabled before the final release, so ther eis no guarantee that this feature will make it to the public release.
The feature is enabled by default, but if you find it annoying, you can switch it off in the Back Tap options under “Settings” -> “Accessibility” -> “Touch” -> “Back Tap.”
iOS 18.5 will likely be released to the general public sometime in May.
