Additional details about the camera system on Apple’s much-rumored foldable iPhone, called the “iPhone Fold” by some, but I like to call it the “iPhone Origami.”
The book-style foldable device is said to boast a 7.8-inch crease-free internal display and a 5.5-inch external screen. Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the handset will sport a dual-lens rear camera along with front-facing cameras usable in both folded and unfolded states.
While we’ve seen several reports that the iPhone Origami in its unfolded state will feature an under-screen camera (USC), we haven’t seen much reported about the front camera that will be available in the folded state.
Now, Korean news aggregator yeux1122, says Apple will go with a hole-punch front-facing camera on the outer display. The design is said to be “almost identical to current foldables” on the market, such as Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
No details were provided whether the hole-punch will be visible or if it will be encased in a smaller Dynamic Island, but Apple is not expected to include Face ID in the camera’s feature set. Instead, Apple is believed to planning to use Touch ID integrated into the side button.
The foldable iPhone is expected to enter mass production in Q4 2026, hitting shelves later that year. It is expected to carry a price tag between $2,000 and $2,300.
