Apple held its fiscal Q2 2025 earnings call on Thursday, and on the call, Apple CEO Tim Cook discussed the delay of promised Apple Intelligence Siri features, as well as what was being done to get the features ready for prime time.
Cook told call participants that while Apple still needs more time to ensure Siri is up to its expected quality, but insisted that progress is being made.
With regard to the more personal Siri features we announced, we need more time to complete our work on these features, so they meet our high quality bar. We are making progress, and we look forward to getting these features into customers’ hands.
Apple unveiled Apple Intelligence and the improved Siri during the WWDC 2024 keynote, last June. While it was originally expected that, while all of the new features wouldn’t be available alongside iOS 18’s release, but they were expected to debut in an update soon after. Unfotunately, we never saw the release of the promised features, and Apple earlier this year admitted it was experiencing difficulties with the promised features and that there would be a longer delay due to the need for addtional development time.
Currently, the promised personalized Siri features will debut in iOS 19, although it hasn’t been specified as to whether the new features will debut in the first release of iOS 19 or whether they’ll accompany a later update.
Apple has made several moves behind the scenes, making changes in the Siri leadership hiearchy, removing AI chief John Giannandrea from the project, handing it over to Mike Rockwell, who handled Vision Pro development.
