The second beta of iOS 26 was released to developer on Monday, and the new beta contains a reference to a new display size for iPhones, offering a hint that the much-rumored iPhone 17 Air will hit shelves this fall.
Macworld discovered a version of the classic iOS clownfish wallpaper with a “420×912@3x” resolution (1260 x 2736). While that resilution does not match up with any currently available iPhone model, it is similar in size to what we’re expecting to see when the iPhone 17 Air debuts.
Last year, Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said he expected that a new super-slim iPhone 17 model would boast a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of approximately 1260 x 2740, which is in the neighborhood of what was found in the second beta.
When the iPhone 17 lineup hits shelves in the fall, the phones will have iOS 26 pre-installed and will have wallpapers for all of the resolutions of the devic elineup.
A 6.6-inch display would mean that the iPhone 17 Air will have a smaller screen than the iPhone 17 Pro, while being larger than the standard iPhone 17. In addition to the 6.6-inch display, Kuo says he expects the handset to be powered by a standard A19 chip, a single-lens rear camera, and Apple’s C1 5G modem.
