Apple may finally be preparing to unveil its long-rumored “homeOS” operating system, due to recent trademark activity, reports MacRumors.
A possible shell company named “Home Operations Suite LLC” has submitted trademark applications for “HOMEOS” across a handful of countries in recent months. A priority filing was made in Liechtenstein in October 2024, while more filings were recorded in the United States, Argentina, Peru, and a few other countries in April 2025.
While the trademark is officially registered in Liechtenstein, the applications elsewhere are still pending. The U.S. filing was first discovered Parker Ortolani and reported by 9to5Mac.
While there is not proof that Apple indeed owns the “Home Operations Suite LLC” shell company, it does have a track record of creating shell firms to keep its intellectual property under cover for unannounced products.
We’ve several references to homeOS over the last several years, including in Apple job listings, as well as tvOS 17.4 code.
It is possible that Apple could be planning to eventually combine the tvOS and HomePod software in the future, which could potentially be rebranded as homeOS.
Apple is working on a new smart home display that is designed to compete with the Echo Show, Google Nest Hub, and similar devices. The new device is said to resemble an iPad and will include a built-in camera for FaceTime calls.
We’ve also seen rumors of a next-generation HomePod that has a display built-in at the top of the device. The device is rumored to possibly roll out as soon as sometime this year.
