Google Chrome’s Support for macOS Big Sur Ends With Version 138

Google has announced that the upcoming Chrome 138 browser update will be the last version to support macOS Big Sur. As of Chrome 139, the popular browser will no longer offer support for macOS 11, which Apple released in November 2020.

Chrome 138 will be the last release to support macOS 11; Chrome 139+ will no longer support macOS 11, which is outside of its support window with Apple. Running on a supported operating system is essential to maintaining security. On Macs running macOS 11, Chrome will continue to work, showing a warning infobar, but will not update any further. If a user wishes to have their Chrome be updated, they need to update their computer to a support version of macOS. For new installations of Chrome 139+, macOS 12+ will be required.

Chrome 139 is set to ship at the end of the month.

Users on Big Sur are advised to update their macOS version to the latest version it supports (Monterey or later is the requirement), or switch to Safari or another third-party browser that is still receiving updates for the version of macOS they are running.
