If you use a third-party sleep tracking app on your Apple Watch, you’re likely familiar with the concept of a “sleep score,” which is a score based on your sleep stages, as well as other health metrics the app collects during the night. Now, MacRumors reports that code has been discovered in iOS 26 that indicates that Apple may be working on a sleep score feature to the Apple Watch’s onboard features.
An image found in the Health app shows an Apple Watch with an “84” on it, surrounded by three bars that feature the same colors as some of the sleep stages that the Apple Watch already tracks. The orange color would likely represent the time the user has spent awake, the lighter blue would represent REM sleep, and the darker blue color would show deep sleep.
Also on the graphic are sleep-related icons already used by Apple around iOS, including a “zzz,” moon and stars, an alarm clock, a bed, sleep stages, and a thermometer.
Few more notes:
1) Some other versions of this graphic have a thermometer icon which says to me that this feature will be available on old and new Apple Watches.
2) Maybe this is why the sleep icon is changing from light blue to purple.
3) I imagine the watch face complication… https://t.co/IKF5SYTZst pic.twitter.com/WqYY7CaWf4— Steve Moser (@SteveMoser) July 23, 2025
The image is named “Watch Focus Score,” meaning that there will likely be a sleep-related score provided by the watch.
There is the possibility that Apple won’t announce a first-party sleep score system and will instead be used to display third-party tracking data. Apple could also be planning to rollout its own sleep score app in an update to its upcoming iOS 26 and watchOS 26 software in later updates.
