New iPad Pros Coming This Fall First to Get M5 Chip – New iPad and iPad Air Models Expected in Early 2026

Apple will refresh its iPad Pro lineup this fall and the new tablets will be the first to get Apple’s more powerful M5 chip, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman. He says Apple’s high-end tablets could be refreshed as soon as October.

The iPad Pro lineup was last refreshed in May 2024, when it scored an M4 chip and and OLED display. That means there will be around 17 months between the M4 and M5 iPad Pro model releases.

The upcoming iPad Pros are not expected to get any huge feature changes other than the new M5 chip. They will boast the same slimmer case and OLED display as the M4. The new M5 chip will be fabricated using TSMC’s improved 3-nanometer process, which will provide improved performance and efficiency.

Gurman also says Apple is planning on releasing new entry-level iPads, as well as new iPad Air models some time in early 2026, even though the current models just went on sale earlier this year.

He says Apple is planning to launch the replacement for today’s low-end iPad by around March or April 2026. While the new model will look like the current version, it will be powered by a faster chip. Today’s offering has an A16 processor.

Meanwhile, the new iPad Air models will be upgraded from the M3 chip to the M4 but otherwise have only limited changes. The new “Air” tablets are expected to launch around the same time as the base iPad models.
