Popular Apple TV+ Underdog Golf Comedy Makes the Cut for a Second Round

Popular Apple TV+ golf comedy “Stick” has made the cut and will have a second season on the streaming service. The first season finale of the comedy premiered on Wednesday, and now fans of the Owen Wilson-led vehicle will be able to enjoy another round of the show.

From the company’s press release:

Today, Apple TV+ announced that its widely celebrated, beloved sports comedy hit, “Stick,” starring and executive produced by Owen Wilson and created by Jason Keller, has been renewed for a second season with more heart, laughs and new characters, as well as the return of the ensemble cast including Wilson, Peter Dager, Marc Maron, Mariana Treviño and Lilli Kay.

The renewal may come as a bit of a surprise to many, even the show’s runners. In an interview with Deadline, published on Wednesday, creator Jason Keller indicated that he wasn’t sure if the show would indeed make the cut. However, he is working on what will happen in a second season:

I’m still thinking about precisely what Season 2 would be. I would love to see Pryce Cahill playing high level golf. It would be fun to see Owen out there, playing in a tournament and seeing just how good this guy is. His story sort of ended with him being 18th in the nation before his life sort of fell apart. So you always ask a question about a guy like that whose career was cut short for one reason or the other, “How good could he have been if he would have kept playing?” That’s something that I’d want to explore in Season 2 for sure.

Interviews can take place well-before they are published, and Apple only Wednesday officially announced the renewal.

Stick, which has been compared to another Apple TV+ hit comedy, “Ted Lasso,” may not have quite reached the level of popularity that Lasso has, is still an enjoyable comedy that is well worth a watch.

Owen Wilson and his fellow castmates, which includes the always funny Marc Maron and talented actress Judy Greer, do a great job with the material they’re given.
