If you’re planning to buy Apple devices or accessories as part of your back-to-school shopping in the next week or so, remember, you can purchase many of those items and pay no sales tax in nine U.S. states.
There is a sales tax holiday either now or in the near future in the following states:
- Arkansas (Aug. 2 – 3)
- Florida (Aug. 1 – 31)
- Massachusetts (Aug. 9 – 10)
- Missouri (Aug. 1 – 3)
- New Mexico (Jul. 25 – 27)
- Ohio (Aug. 1 – 14)
- South Carolina (Aug. 1 – 3)
- Tennessee (Jul. 25 – 27)
- Virginia (Aug. 1 – 3)
- West Virginia (Aug. 1 – 4)
There was also a tax-free holiday in Alabama, but it has since ended.
State sales tax holidays provide a short period of time where you can purchase select Apple products online or in stores without being required to pay sales tax on the purchase. Eligible products and price limits vary from state to state. Complete details are available on the Apple website. While the sales tax savings may not appear during the checkout process, they will be reflected on the final receipt.
Depending on the state, eligible Apple products may include Macs, iPads, iPhones, and/or accessories.
Sales tax holiday discounts can be combined with Apple’s ongoing Back to School promotion, which offers students, educators, and parents free accessories worth up to $199 when purchasing select Mac and iPad models through September 30.
