Apple is in discussions with Google over using Google’s Gemini AI to power the upcoming smarter version of Siri, according to a Bloomberg report. While the talks are said to be in early stages, Apple has reportedly asked Google to create a custom AI model to power Siri.
Google has begun training a custom AI model that would run on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute servers in response. Apple has also been in talks with Anthropic and OpenAI, and both companies have been working on versions of their own AI models for use on Apple’s servers.
While Apple is definitely exploring partnerships with multiple AI companies, the Cupertino company has still not made a final decision on whether to go with their own in-house LLM models or go with a solution from a third-party source.
Apple has been working on a more advanced “second-generation” version of Siri that Apple’s software engineering chief Craig Federighi said is an “end-to-end revamp” of Siri that brought the results Apple required for the advanced AI features that Apple had promised as a part of Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.
“This has put us in a position to not just deliver what we announced, but to deliver a much bigger upgrade than that we envisioned,” Federighi said.
Rumors suggest that LLM Siri will launch in spring 2026.
