Some Apple Support App Users See Early Preview of AI Support Assistant

Some Apple Support app users are seeing a new chat tab in the app, providing access to an AI assistant, reports MacRumors.

When the user taps the tab, they are greeted with a botchat screen, as well as the usual disclaimers about using and interacting with LLM-based chatbots:

Support Assistant is an experimental feature. Verify important information. Apple may use your device, account, and chat information to understand your issue, provide relevant responses, and improve Support Assistant. Data may be shared with partners for the purposes of providing you support.

The Support Assistant is intended to help solve easier support issues, such as questions about Apple products and services, troubleshooting information, and questions about device features. If the chatbot can’t satisfactorily resolve the customer’s issue, it presents an option to have a human representative take over to provide additional support.

The new feature is not being rolled out to all users as yet, and no timeframe has yet been announced for a full rollout.

To check your copy of the Apple Support app for the feature, look at the bottom of the app’s screen, if you’re one of the chosen few, you’ll see a “Chat” button down there. A quick tap of the button, and an AI chat assistant will appear to assist you.
