Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is standing by his previous comments that Apple’s first foldable iPhone will sport a Touch ID-enabled power button, same as current iPad Air, iPad mini, and entry-level iPad models.
In a post on X (Twitter) Monday, Kuo recalled his March 2025 comments about the rumored 2026 foldable device: “Six months ago, I predicted the foldable iPhone would use side-button Touch ID.” Kuo continues:
“There are now market rumors that it will adopt an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, but I think that’s unlikely. It’s expected that Luxshare ICT will supply the side-button Touch ID module for the foldable iPhone.”

Kuo has previously said the foldable iPhone may include two rear cameras, a single front-facing camera, and Touch ID integrated into the power button. The device could measure just 4.5mm thick when unfolded, and between 9mm and 9.5mm when closed.
Mass production of the first foldable iPhone is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, suggesting a possible late 2026 or early 2027 release.
