Apple Confirms iOS 26 U.S. Passport Feature for Wallet is Coming Before End of Year

Apple Confirms iOS 26 U.S. Passport Feature for Wallet is Coming Before End of Year

Apple confirmed today that Digital ID, which is an iOS 26 feature that allows U.S. passport holders to add their passports to the Wallet app on the iPhone, will be made available before the end of this year.

Apple has updated the release timing wording of Digital ID on its iOS 26 features page, which now reads: “Digital ID will be coming later this year with US passports only.”

Previously, the footnote for the feature said “Digital ID will be available in a software update with U.S. passports only,” with no mention of a release timeline.

Digital ID will likely debut in iOS 26.1 (which is currently being beta tested by developers) or iOS 26.2, sometime before the end of the year. While Digital ID support is not included in the iOS 26.1 beta, but it could be added before the new update is released to the public.

Digital ID allows users to create a digital version of driver’s licenses from certain states, and when the passport feature is available in Wallet it will allow you to use a digital version of your U.S. passport at TSA checkpoints, in apps, and in person.
