Instagram Finally Releases a Dedicated iPad App

In June, we reported that a true iPad version of Instagram was on the way, and an iPad-centric version of the app has finally landed on the tablet.

Today, we’re excited to announce we’re bringing Instagram to iPad. People have asked for this for a while, and we’ve taken the time to design an experience that optimizes your favorite parts of Instagram for a bigger screen.

The new Instagram for iPad app focuses on Reels, when you open the app, you’ll be immediately dropped into Reels. Stories will be available at the top of the interface, with support for messaging as well.

Also, a new “Following” tab offers multiple ways to see the latest content from the accounts you follow:

  • All: Recommended posts and reels from accounts you follow
  • Friends: Recommended post and reels from accounts you follow, that follow you back
  • Latest: Chronological posts and reels from accounts you follow, with the most recent posts appearing first.
You can choose the order of these feeds to prioritize what you want to see first.

The new iPad version of Instagram takes advantage of the iPad’s larger screen, offering more features with fewer taps, making it easier to catch up on messages and notifications with layouts that display both tabs. When viewing reels, the comments can be expanded while the reel stays at full size, making it easy to catch up on the best reactions without missing a moment.

Instagram for iPad is now available globally on iPads running iPadOS 15.1 and later. It’s a free download on the App Store. The new tablet design will also be coming soon to Android.
