Apple debuted its new iPhone 17 lineup on Tuesday and has not quietly update the storage options of its base iPhone 16 model to a single 126GB configuration for $699. The base model iPhone 16 had previously also offered in 256GB and 512GB storage options.
The iPhone 16 Plus handset’s storage options have been changed to 128GB and 256GB, dropping its 512GB option.
Apple likely made the change in iPhone 16 storage options due to all iPhone 17 models having a minimum of 256GB storage, so keeping a 256GB iPhone 16 model could have impacted the sales of the iPhone 17, due to feature overlap.
The streamlining of the iPhone 16 lineup will likely prompt customers in search of more storage to purchase the iPhone 16 Plus or the iPhone 17 lineup when it becomes available for pre-order tomorrow, Friday, September 12. The handsets will be available in-store starting Friday, September 19.
