Is the iPhone Air As Bendable as the iPhone 6? This Video Reveals the Answer

Is the iPhone Air As Bendable as the iPhone 6? This Video Reveals the Answer

Apple’s new iPhone Air is the thinnest iPhone ever made, at just 5.6mm at its thinnest spot, replacing the iPhone 6 (6.9mm) as the Twiggy of iPhones.

As you might expect, there are plenty of potential iPhone Air buyers who want to know if the iPhone Air is as prone to bending as the iPhone 6 was.

A new video that Apple provided to Tom’s Guide goes a long way in relieving those fears. In the video, Apple inflicted pressure on the iPhone Air via a machine that simulated “130 pounds of pressure” on the middle of the device. The website reports that the video shows that the device “springs back remarkably well and doesn’t show any lasting curve from the experience.” The video is available for viewing at the above link.

While we’ll certainly find out about the device’s real-world resistance to bending once reports from users start rolling in in a few days, it appears that the iPhone Air should do a good job of being bend-proof in daily use.

The iPhone Air should not bend the same way the iPhone 6 did, mostly due to Apple’s use of titanium to make the Air’s frame, while the iPhone 6’s frame was made from aluminum. Apple claims the iPhone Air is the most durable iPhone ever.
