Apple’s foldable iPhone, which is expected to see a 2026 release, will have a mixed metal chassis frame made from a mix of aluminum and titanium, claims analyst Jeff Pu of GF Securities Hong Kong. Pu’s claims came in a note shared with investors on Wednesday.
Pu says the “iPhone Fold” will join the iPhone Air in using titanium in its frame. Pu didn’t specify how the two materials will be used, not making it clear as to how the two materials will be used, be it as a titanium and aluminum hybrid compound for the device’s frame, or will use titanium in some portions and aluminum in other areas.
“Additionally, the metal frame will turn favorable on increasing usage of titanium, which will likely be adopted by iPhone 18 Fold (titanium + aluminum) and iPhone 18 Air,” said Pu.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard a rumor about a mixed metal chassis for the Fold. Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in March 2025 said Apple will use multiple alloys for the foldable device. However, Kuo believes Apple will use a mix of titanium and stainless steel for the foldable’s hinge, with the device’s frame being constructed from titanium. Kuo also says that some hinge components will be crafted from Liquidmetal.
Apple is expected to unveil its foldable iPhone alongside its iPhone 18 lineup, which will likely launch in September 2026.
