Apple has quietly modified its in-store MagSafe charging stands with protective silicone rings, following reports last month of marks appearing on some iPhone 17 series display models, according to Consomac (via MacRumors).
Apple last month said the marks customers were seeing on demonstrator iPhone 17 Pro models at Apple retail stores were caused by the MagSafe Chargers used to keep them charged. The Cupertino firm said worn MagSafe charging stands in the stores were the culprit behind the marks seen on the in-store demo models of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The Cupertino company also confirmed that the marks were not scratches, but were instead material transfer from the stand to the phone that is removable with cleaning.
The marks were discovered on iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. There were also reports of the marks appearing on iPhone Air models.
At the time of this writing, it isn’t clear whether the in-store changes are only in France, where Consomac is based, or if the silicone rings rollout is also taking place in Apple retail stores in other regions of the globe.
