Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Could Face Delays

The debut of Apple’s first foldable iPhone could be delayed until 2027, claims Japanese investment banking and securities firm Mizuho Securities (via The Elec). The firm has suggested that Apple could be taking longer to finalize key design elements, including the device’s all-important hinge.

The firm’s report also said that expected production of display panels for the foldable ‌iPhone‌ have now decreased from 13 million to nine million units. While a 2026 launch is still a possibility, device production during the first year of availability may lag behind panel production by as much as five to seven million units.

The firm also agreed with previous reports that Apple will delay the launch of its iPhone 18 until Spring 2027, launching it alongside the iPhone 18e. Apple’s iPhone Air 2, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max will launch in the fall of 2026.

Mizuho also claims Apple is developing new technology for the ‌iPhone‌ 19 lineup, promoting it a special release, as its release falls upon the 20th anniversary of the ‌iPhone‌. Apple could also reduce the price of the second foldable ‌iPhone‌ model, which could launch in the fall of 2027 if there are no delays with production of the first model.

Mizuho Securities also said the Apple supply chain is about to resume development of an 18.9-inch foldable MacBook for release in 2028 or 2029 at the earliest.
