Apple released the fourth betas of its upcoming iOS 26.1, iPadOS 26.1, and macOS 26.1 updates to developers for testing on Monday, and the new betas bring a new setting that allows users to customize the look of Liquid Glass on their device.
The new setting allows users to go with a a clear look for Liquid Glass, or a tinted look. You’ll recognized clear as the Liquid Glass design we all know and love (or hate), with more transparency that shows the background underneath buttons, bars, and menus. “Tinted” increases the opacity of Liquid Glass and adds more contrast.
Here’s where to find this setting in the fourth iOS 26.1 and iPadOS 26.1 betas:
- Open the Settings app.
- Select Display and Brightness.
- Choose Liquid Glass.
- Tap Clear or Tinted, depending on your preference.
A preview will give you an idea of what this looks like, using a preview of the toolbar from Apple’s Mail app.
The setting can be found in System Settings -> Appearance on the Mac in macOS Tahoe 26.1.
Apple says that the new toggle was added due to user feedback suggested that some people would prefer to have a more opaque option for Liquid Glass.
