Apple Intelligence Support for M1 Macs Dropped on Website After Apparent Listing Error (UPDATE – It’s Back!)

UPDATE – The M1 Macs have been added back to the compatibility list.

At the time of this article, Apple’s website is causing confusion and consternation among M1 Mac owners, as the US version of the Apple Intelligence webpage has dropped M1 Macs from its device compatibility list. The removal is almost certainly due to human error and not a change in support policy.

The page has been updated recently, and lists “M2 or later” Mac models as the requirement for AI features, replacing the “M1 and later” requirement that has been in place since the beginning.

While the US site says M2 Macs are the low-end requirement for AI, regional versions – including the UK and Canada sites – continue to list M1 Macs as being compatible with Apple Intelligence. Apple’s Apple Intelligence support page, (“How to get Apple Intelligence“) which was last updated on November 10, still lists “Mac with M1 or later” under the device requirements.

It appears that when Apple changed the Apple Intelligence requirements for the Apple Vision Pro from “M2” to “M2 or later” to reflect the recent launch of the Vision Pro that is powered by the M5 chip. Unfortunately, whoever performed the edit also appears to have mistakenly changed the Macs requirements in the list to “M2 or later” as well.

Apple’s Canada and UK website have not yet been updated to show the Vision Pro as “M2 or later”, indicating this is what has happened. We expect to see a correction by Apple for the U.S. webpage, once the Cupertino firm learns of the mistake.
