The CNN news company abruptly pulled its content from Apple News over the weekend. There is no longer a feed from the network to subscribe to in the app, Semafor reports. The new network is pulling its content from the Apple News app, while the two sides negotiate new terms. CNN’s content will return if a new deal is reached.
CNN declined to comment. Apple also did not respond to a request for comment.
CNN earlier this month rolled out a new paid subscription offering, and has since been putting more of its reported stories behind a paywall. The network is offering a $29.99-per-year articles-only tier and a $69.99-per-year “All Access” plan that provides access to written stories and its streaming service.
While some news forms, such as People Inc. and Conde Nast, have enthusiastically embraced Apple News as a key source of eyeballs and revenue, other media companies have been wary of relying too much on Apple’s platform, as they are concerned about giving up their direct relationship with their audience. CNN was included in the feed from day one, available right from the launch of the app back in 2015.
