A bit over two weeks ago, Apple unveiled its knitted iPhone Pocket, a limited edition knitted iPhone accessory that’s designed to carry an iPhone. The accessory, created in collaboration with Japanese fashion brand ISSEY MIYAKE. The accessory soon sold out around the world.
Now, the counterfeiters of the world have fired up their knitting looms and are selling clones of the knitted sock on Chinese sites like AliExpress, where you can pick one up for as little as $10 (prices change on AliExpress on a continual basis, so the price may be higher or lower). (First noticed by MacRumors)
Listings vary, although some listings describe it as a 1:1 replica. However, there is no ISSEY MIYAKE print on the label. The listings describe the accessory as being made with the same production processes. Both short and long variants are available in all of the original color options.
It isn’t unusual to see Chinese knockoffs of Apple products. Heck, faux AirPods are an industry on their own. I do have to say though, that a two week turnaround on a new accessory, even if it is knitted, is still quite impressive.
Buyer beware, as the quality of these reproduction can vary from company to company, and if you’ve ever shopped on AliExpress or similar sites, you know the product descriptions on these sites can be, um, somewhat creative. Still, might be a nice stocking stuffer for Christmas.
