While Apple users have long wished Apple would offer AirPods in colors other than white, with no satisfaction so far, new images indicate that Apple had at least tested a version of its first-generation AirPods that offered colored charging cases, with bright colors much like those used for the iPhone 5c.
The Apple leaker and prototype collector known as “Kosutami” on Christmas Eve shared images that purportedly show first-generation AirPods prototypes with pink and yellow exterior casings. Only the exterior of the cases sported the bright colors, as the interior of the charging case and the earbuds themselves remained white.

The shades of the colors resemble some of the color options offered for the iPhone 5c, which was available in blue, green, pink, yellow and white. Apple has never ever released AirPods in any color other than white. As of now, the AirPods Max are the only AirPods Apple has offered in different color options.

As reported by MacRumors, Kosutami in 2023 shared images showing AirPods in pink. The report claimed Apple had developed five different AirPods color options that would approximately match the iPhone 7’s options, but decided against the idea.
