Apple’s Chip Chief Johny Srouji Says He’s Not Going Anywhere, For Now

Amid several defections in the company’s executive ranks, Apple’s chipmaking chief Johny Srouji says he has no plans to leave the company for the foreseeable future.

“I love my team, and I love my job at Apple, and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon,” said Srouji, in a memo shared by Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.

Here is Srouji’s full memo, is as follows:

I know you’ve been reading all kind of rumors and speculations about my future at Apple, and I feel that you need to hear from me directly. I am proud of the amazing Technologies we all build across Displays, Cameras, Sensors, Silicon, Batteries, and a very wide set of technologies, across all of Apple Products. Together we enable the best products in the world. I love my team, and I love my job at Apple, and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon.

Last week, Gurman reported that Srouji recently told Apple CEO Tim Cook that he was “seriously considering leaving in the near future.” While Srouji did not explicitly deny the report, it appears that he is planning to stick around, at least for the foreseeable future.\.

Srouji told colleagues that he would likely work for another company if he did leave Apple, rather than retiring, according to Gurman.

Srouji, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies, joined the company in 2008 to lead development of the iPhone 4’s A4 chip, which was the first Apple-designed system-on-a-chip. Srouji had previously held senior positions at Intel and IBM.

Apple’s chip lineup has proven to be quite impressive, setting performance records. The A19 Pro chip, which powers Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, is the worlds fastest smartphone CPU, while the Apple Silicon chips used in the Mac and iPad, currently on their 5th generation, also offer impressive performance.

Apple has recently seen several top executives jump ship. The company’s operations chief, Jeff Williams, recently retired, and AI research chief John Giannandrea, environmental chief Lisa Jackson, and general counsel Kate Adams are all leaving headed for the exit. APple software design chief Alan Dye is leaving to join Meta’s Reality Labs this month. Last but not least, Apple CEO Tim Cook is rumored to be considering stepping down as early as next year.
