Apple on Monday debuted its second-generation AirTag, which offers improved Bluetooth tracking range, more precise precision finding, and a louder speaker.
As you likely already know, the AirTag is a small tracker tag that can be hidden in or attached to just about anything you fear losing, such as your backpack, purse, keys, or child. The AirTag allows users to track the location of the attached item in the Find My app on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch. Users of other computers or devices can use iCloud.com to track items.
The new AirTag has a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, improving the Precision Finding feature to work up to 50% farther away than the OG AirTag. An upgraded Bluetooth chip offers improved overall range outside of the Precision Finding mode.
The new AirTag includes a 50% louder speaker than the first-generation model.
While the external design of the AirTag remains unchanged, the weight of the tag has increased slightly. The new accessory is powered by the same CR2032 coin cell battery as the 1st-gen AirTag 9with “more than a year” of battery life), and the new model boasts the same IP67-rated water resistance as the original tag.
The new AirTag is compatible with all existing AirTag accessories. It requires an iPhone running an iOS 26.2.1 update, an iPad running iPadOS 26.2.1, or an Apple Watch running watchOS 26.2.1 or higher. Those updates were also released on Monday.
The second-generation AirTag is available to order on Apple.com and in the Apple Store app starting today, and it will be available at physical Apple Stores later this week. In the U.S., the pricing continues to be $29 for an individual AirTag, while a four pack continues to cost $99.
