Back in late 2022 and early 2023 Apple began rolling out a new architecture for its Apple Home platform. While the deadline for updating had originally been announced as fall 2025, beta users reported multiple issues after installing the update, causing the roll out to be delayed, with Apple announcing in November 2025 that the deadline had been pushed back to February 10, 2026.
Now, Apple is alerting users that haven’t yet upgraded their setup about the February 10, 2026 deadline, sending out reminder emails to users that support is about to end for the old version. Users that don’t update by the deadline could have their access to the entire Home platform blocked:
This email serves as your second reminder that support for the earlier version of Apple Home will end next month on February 10, 2026.
If you do not update to this new version of Apple Home, your access to your home within the Home app might be blocked, accessories and automations might not work as expected, and you will not receive important security fixes and performance improvements. Updating to the new version of Apple Home can also enable new features, such as guest access, support for robot vacuum cleaners, Activity History, and more.
The new version of Home requires a minimum of iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, macOS 13.1, tvOS 16.2, and watchOS 9.2 to be installed on users’ devices.
Users can update to the new version of Apple Home by doing the following:
- Open the Home app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap the More button (that’s the three dots seen in the top right-hand corner of the screen.)
- Choose Home Settings (Users that manage multiple homes will be required to choose one first).
- Tap Software Update.
- Tap Update Now, then follow the prompts.
Please note that all the homes you manage will be updated simultaneously.
If you see “This home and all accessories are up to date” shown in Software Update, then you’re already on the current version and don’t need to do anything.
