New Leak Claims iPhone 18 Pro to Have Smaller Dynamic Island, But No Top-Left Camera Cutout

New Leak Claims iPhone 18 Pro to Have Smaller Dynamic Island, But No Top-Left Camera Cutout

A new nation has been heard from in the rumor war about the iPhone 18 Pro’s front panel design. Yesterday, we heard from Front Page Tech’s Jon Prosser, who said the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will feature a front camera cutout positioned in the top-left corner of the display, which is also where the Dynamic Island will also be relocated. Now, a new leaker has chimed in with their prediction.

Today, Weibo-based leaker Instant Digital shared new details about the upcoming handset. The leaker says early reports from Chinese and Korean sources about the possible relocation of an infrared Face ID component were later mistranslated as a visible left-side hole-punch front camera.

That led to incorrect reports that overlooked how Apple typically evolves its front sensor layout, meaning a minor internal change was misinterpreted as a major external redesign.

The claim that the iPhone 18 Pro has a punch-hole front-facing camera on the left side is a complete misinformation.

According to my investigation, it originated from an English-language media outlet on Twitter. Before they mentioned the punch-hole, I, along with media outlets in China and South Korea, had already stated that the iPhone 18 Pro would have an under-display infrared sensor on the left side. I suspect this English author mistranslated, thinking it was a camera. But unfortunately, English has a wider global reach.

The leaker also shared an image (seen below) of a Face ID sensor assembly showing an infrared flood illuminator on the left, with a centered dot projector with an infrared camera mounted to its right.

The layout indicates that the flood illuminator is the only Face ID component that is likely to be moved to under the display, located in the top-left area of the screen. Meanwhile, the dot projector and infrared camera, will remain centered and housed within a reduced, Dynamic Island, alongside the unmoved selfie camera.

We won’t know for sure how all of this will turn out until Apple debuts the iPhone 18 Pro models in September. Unti then, sit back and enjoy the rumor volleying.
