Apple seeded the first beta of tvOS 26.4 this week and as first noticed by MacRumors, Apple has removed the dedicated iTunes Movies and iTunes TV Shows apps. Buying and renting movies and TV shows can be done through the Apple TV app instead.
Apple began transitioning users to the Apple TV app for awhile now, as it began phasing the two apps out in 2023, when it began redirecting users to the Apple TV app to make purchases. The apps remained, if only to direct customers to their content and to allow them to access their iTunes Wish List.
Customers that still have an iTunes Wish List that include movies and TV shows have now received emails letting them know the feature is being removed. The emails include links allowing users to migrate those lists to the Apple TV watchlist feature as an alternative.
The move is all part of Apple’s push to put all movie and TV buying, renting, and viewing in one place. While there is no longer any iTunes-related app on the Apple TV, the iPhone still offers an iTunes Store option for purchasing music.
tvOS 26.4 is available to developers and public beta testers at the current time. A public release is planned for spring.
