Another day, another streaming service price hike. Amazon has announced a new ‘Prime Video Ultra’ streaming plan launching next month. The new plan will replace the streaming service’s current ad-free tier and while offering more features, viewers will pay more.
Prime Video Ultra will cost $4.99/month when it launches on April 10 for US subscribers.
That price is in addition to the standard Amazon Prime subscription price of $14.99 per month or $139 per year. The current price for the ad-free plan is $2.99 per month .
For the extra two bucks, you’ll get the following additional features with the Ultra plan:
- Up to five concurrent streams (currently three)
- Up to 100 downloads (currently 25)
- Exclusive access to 4K/UHD streaming
Amazon’s announcement explains the price hike:
Delivering ad-free streaming with premium features requires significant investment, and this structure aligns with other major streaming services while ensuring customers have the flexibility to choose how they want to watch. Prime members will continue to enjoy the core Prime Video benefit, including HD/HDR and now Dolby Vision, at no additional cost with their Prime membership.
The Prime Video Ultra tier will only be available in the US for now, but we’ll likely see similar plans rollouts around the globe in the near future.
