MacBook Pro to Get ‘Major Upgrade’ With OLED Display by Early 2027

Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo earlier today said Apple’s MacBook Pro will get a “major upgrade” that will include an OLED display by early 2027.

Kuo’s comments came in a blog post, where he said the new MacBook Pro will be hit shelves sometime between late 2026 and early 2027.

Reiterating my earlier forecast: MacBook Pro is expected to receive a major upgrade with OLED touch panels in late 4Q26 or early 1Q27.

An OLED display would provide better image quality compared to the current models with LCD displays and mini-LED backlighting. The new display will provide more vivid colors, higher contrast ratio, and wider viewing angles, and in many cases can be more power efficient.

In addition to an OLED display, the next-generation MacBook Pro is expected to boast numerous other upgrades, including a touch screen with a Dynamic Island, a thinner design, and will be powered by M6 Pro and M6 Max chips made with TSMC’s 2nm fabrication process.

The new laptop is also expected to carry a higher price tag, and could possibly be the much-rumored “MacBook Ultra” which could be positioned at the high end of the MacBook lineup, above the MacBook Pro.

Kuo also he expects to see the MacBook Air gain OLED display panels around 2028 or 2029.

He also estimates total MacBook shipments will reach about 25 million units in 2026, potentially returning to the COVID-era sales peak.
