Apple today released macOS Tahoe 26.4 to the public, marking the release of the fourth major update to the macOS Tahoe operating system, which was released in September. macOS Tahoe 26.4 comes a month and a half after the release of macOS Tahoe 26.3.
Mac users can download the macOS Tahoe update by using the Software Update section of the System Settings app.
macOS Tahoe 26.4 brings new emoji, which are part of the Unicode 17 update that the Unicode Consortium previewed in fall 2025:
- Trombone
- Treasure Chest
- Distorted Face
- Hairy Creature (aka Bigfoot or Sasquatch)
- Fight Cloud
- Orca
- Landslide
New skin tone modifiers are also now available, with people wrestling and dancers with bunny ears, as well as a gender neutral option for the ballet dancer emoji.
Other new features include:
- A Charge Limit feature for the Mac. A new slider bar allows Mac users to select a charge level from 80% to 100%. The setting is available in addition to Optimized Battery Charging, and it can prevent a Mac from ever charging to 100%.
- The return a compact Safari Tab Bar option for those who prefer that view option.
- When users launch an app that uses Rosetta 2, a popup will appear letting them know that the app will no longer work when support for Rosetta 2 ends. The end of support for Intel-based Macs will arrive with the September 2026 launch of macOS 27.
- It includes Apple Creator Studio for the Freeform app.
- It has the same Family Sharing change as iOS 26.4. Adult members of a family group can now opt to use their own payment methods for purchases instead of having to share one.
